Remember Philco?

Better Homes & Gardens, July 1966
Ford bought the ailing Philco Corporation in 1961. Initially celebrated for its high quality, production eventually moved to Taiwan and quality declined.  Ford sold Philco to GTE in 1974, which in turn unloaded it three years later to White Consolidated Industries.  End of the line.

As an aside, ever wonder why "refrigerator" has no letter d, while "fridge" does?  See Grammarphobia.
