I came across this curious carbide-tipped drill bit recently. It's designed for cutting class and ceramic tile. It is marked "Cintride England." I imagine that this name was suggested by sintered carbide.
According to one forum:
"The Cintride works on the A6 just south of Bakewell closed around 1999-2000 I think. I visited on business in 1999 when they were still manufacturing drill bits there, saying they were much better than nasty foreign ones. It was obvious the company was on its last legs."
Same old story.

Tried to compete with China when all competitors imported from there. Main board would not listen and so the inevitable happened
Cintride's hq was on Grange Lane in Sheffield and the site in Bakewell was a subsidiary producing handyman tools. They were taken over by Neepsend c 1972 which was probably the beginning of the end.
My Nan worked at Grange Lane during the war on drill bits. She wore black underwear because of the black dust staining. Wish there were old pictures to see.
